Jim Mullen’s ‘Volunteers’

Scarborough Jazz Festival 2019
20-22 September 2019
Sunday Evening Session

Sunday night sees what promises to be a perfect finish to the festival.
After a serious illness in 2017 legendary ‘musician’s musician’ guitarist Jim Mullen has brought together for his ‘dream project’ the ‘Volunteers’ an all star nine-piece band who play jazz with hints of blues, soul, funk and rock.

They will be performing nine originals and standards with arrangements by flautist Gareth Lockrane.

Jim is a truly original voice in jazz guitar. In 1975 he met saxophonist Dick Morrissey and they began a fifteen year collaboration in the famous funk band Morrissey Mullen.

Jim has played with many US stars – for example Mose Allison, Jimmy Smith, Percy Sledge and Jimmy Witherspoon – and with UK vocalists Claire Martin and Georgie Fame.  He is a multiple winner of Best Guitar in the British Jazz Awards and received a lifetime achievement in 2015.

Jim has put on some superb performances in previous festivals and we know this will be a very popular programme choice.
