Frequently Asked Questions - Carer Scheme

Do you offer free carer/personal assistant tickets?

Yes. Our new carer/personal assistant scheme comes into operation on 1 February 2018. The scheme allows entitled customers to obtain ONE free ticket for the person who is assisting them to attend an event/performance at Scarborough Spa. The free ticket is provided on the assumption that the person who accompanies the customer is able to provide them with appropriate assistance.

How do I apply to join the free carer/personal assistant ticket scheme?

Please call at the Spa Box Office/Whitby Pavilion with proof of eligibility to join the scheme (please see what do you accept as proof of entitlement). You can contact us on the following numbers: Scarborough Spa 01723 821888 to find out how you can apply to join the scheme if you cannot get to the box office.

How do I know if I qualify for the scheme?

To qualify for the scheme you need to provide evidence that you require personal assistance. We will require proof of your entitlement at the time of booking or before the tickets are released for collection/posted. We will only need to see proof the first time you purchase tickets using the scheme, your account will be approved after proof of eligibility has been provided to make future ticket purchasing easier.

What do you accept as proof of entitlement?

We accept any of the following:

• Evidence you are entitled to DLA - Middle or Higher Care Component of Disability Living Allowance or Higher Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance.

• Evidence you are entitled to PIP - Standard or Enhanced Daily Living Component of Personal Independence Payment or Enhanced Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment.

• Evidence you are entitled to AFIP – Armed Forces Independence Payment.

• CVI - Certificate of Visual Impairment.

• Evidence you are entitled to AA - Attendance Allowance (Disability Living Allowance for patrons over 65).

• Visually Impaired or Disabled Bus Pass.

• CEA Card - Cinema Discount Card.

• Access Card

Please note that the Blue Badge and Employment and Support Allowance schemes will not be accepted as proof of eligibility.

I don’t have proof of eligibility with me at the time of booking. Can I still apply for the carer/free personal assistant ticket?

We can process your sale and start your application, but will not be able to release the tickets for collection or post them to you until we see your proof of eligibility. You can bring your documents into the Box Office in person, email them to spaboxoffice@siv.org.uk or even send a copy of them through the post to Spa Box Office, Scarborough Spa, South Bay, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, YO11 2HD. Once we have seen proof, your tickets will be released for collection or posted to you.

If I pay for my ticket, will the carer/personal assistant ticket be free?

Yes. You must purchase a ticket for yourself for the same event/performance at Scarborough Spa or Whitby Pavilion to qualify for the free carer/personal assistant ticket.

Please note: Free tickets for carers/personal assistants cannot be claimed if they are attending an event/performance without you.

Are VIP or Meet & Greet tickets included in the scheme?

Any special package tickets e.g. VIP or Meet & Greet are exempt from the scheme. You may purchase these tickets for yourself but your carer/personal assistant may not be sat next to you, we will seat them in a standard seat as close to you as is possible at the time of booking.

Are there any events/performances that are exempt from the scheme?

Catered events are exempt from the scheme E.g. Christmas Party Nights, New Year’s Eve Dinner, 80’s party nights.

Can I buy carer/personal assistant tickets online?

No, they are only available from the box office in person or by ringing the box office direct. You can contact us on the following numbers: Scarborough Spa 01723 821888.

I am hearing impaired, is there another way to purchase free personal assistant/carer tickets?

Yes, you can contact us by email using the following email address spaboxoffice@siv.org.uk. We will contact you by e-mail to assist you with your purchase.

I purchased my tickets before the scheme started, could I get a refund for the ticket I bought for my carer/personal assistant?

No, unfortunately only tickets purchased after the start date would be included in the scheme.
